As the good catholics that we are, friday is fish day ... and WHAT a nice load of seafood we are going to have tonight :)

www.transpacificseafoods.com does deliver seafood party platters and this time around I got a flyer and how could I hesitate ... the offer comes in 3 sizes, S, M and L ... 43, 63, and 83 FJD (right now 58 UScents buy you a FJD). The basics are 500 gramms prawns, 450 gramms NS half shell mussles, smoked walu and morton bay bugs ... those bugs seem to be quite seasonal .. so they offered to substitute them with more prawns at first ... then they offered upgrade to crab (such a hassle to get the meat out of there) .. so I politely asked for lobster instead.

The company is located in Lautoka, which is like 4 hours drive away. So I was very happy when they arrived around mid-day, Thelma, the sales lady was on the truck herself to say hello to know customers ... very nice indeed.

So... what to do now ... most of the stuff I leave as it is (it is pre-cooked), but I took half of the shrimp (prawn) and steamed them in a white wine/garlic broth with Old Bay Spice on top. And half of the mussels I gave a garlic, cheese, white wine treatement and baked them for a bit ... I made some dips. A wasabi cream, a thousand island like orange thing (sour cream, pepper, ketchup, mayo, cayenne pepper and paprika spice) and a classic american cocktail sauce (ketchup, horseraddish and a bit of tabasco)

Will let you know later how it went.

Last night we threw a little "we survived the first trimester" shindig. I made BBQ Jerk Chicken which had been marinated for hours ... but I think i screwed it up a bit, the BBQ being too hot .. so the chicken was crispy black on the outside and still a bit red on the inside ... well .. we gave it another coating of marinade and put it back on and it turned out quite nice ... much better was actually the fresh pork sausage that I bought mainly for thise who do not like their food to spicy. Other items were a duruka salad, a jamaican rice dish, a salad (could have made more)

Desert was a fruit salad with ice cream and I forgot that I also made some banana bread.

But it was a fun get together lasting quite long (especially for a weekday). Need to do that again .. next time I will pre-grill all the goods!!!

Puppies are gone, I just brough them to SPCA, they will take care of them and hopefully find people to adopt them ... cute little puppies have a great chance for that. At least the SPCA is making sure that those 2 rascals are not ever going to ad to the stray-dog-overpopulation problem in Fiji. Amazing also how 2 little dogs were able to leave this extra bathroom very very smelly !!!

For some days now I have noticed a little stray puppy dog at the deserted house across the street ... though at times there seems to be a big (mother) dog, the puppy seemed very deserted ... so .. today we just grabbed him and tommorow he is going to see the vet ... always something going on in the zoo of nacken.

GREAT ... 50 minutes later this puppy's brother shows up ... now we have 2 of them ... and i think I heard a third, but could not see it in the dark.

and then they just fell asleep

Todat Ritsu made japanese dumplings ... reminded me a lot of our making Tortelini a while ago .. only that this time it was much hotter and I was sweating like a pig ... speaking of which .. the filling is mainly minced pork and cabbage in equal parts, pepper, garlic, ginger, some soy sauce .. and all that in some pasta pouch ... now cheese, egg or butter involved ... very yummy i must say.
